More about 316 Reptiles

Exotics Rescue--
We take in unwanted, found, & uncared for animals. There are lots of reasons people surrender their pets. Whether you're moving and can't take it with you, You find yourself not having as much time to spend on the animal, your kids are "over it", or the animal got bigger or more aggressive than you anticipated. Maybe you found a discarded, homeless, or sick pet. We'd love to help.

All animals are quarantined from other pets following acquisition. After determining health and temperament, animals may be rehomed. Special needs animals are either kept by one of our team of rescuers, or given to qualified, dedicated new owners. We will provide round the clock care whenever possible. We've all spent countless hours, days, weeks, months, or even years syringe-feeding calcium to animals with MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease), dressing & disinfecting wounds, and hand-feeding picky, sick, or abused animals. Sometimes, the people surrendering their pets stipulate that we (the rescuer) keep their animals as pets. This is done whenever possible (we won't tell you we can if we can't!)
We love being invited to schools, churches, daycares, & homeschool classrooms, as well as parties & other functions, to share our scaly friends, allow questions, and facilitate hands-on learning.
We do not have a set fee for this, as most other rescue groups do. A donation to the rescue is usually made, but our main goal is sharing and educating, not collecting funds.

How We Differ From Other Rescues:

We will take the time to personally rehab the animals whenever possible. Whether they need medical care, or hands-on 'personality adjustments' (contact & taming), we will do all that we can. Other rescues will immediately put down any animal that isn't in perfect rehoming condition. If It's fixable, we'll try to fix it. We're not going to put a pet down just because it has one superficial bite on its body, or hasn't eaten in a month, is somewhat cranky, or is a little dehydrated (yes, I've seen all of this happen).

We do not sell our rescues! We do charge a very small rehoming fee. The reason for this is so that we know that the people adopting the animals are not just looking for any and all free pets. I've seen too many people snatch up every free pet they can find from a rescue, and turn around and sell it to a pet store or on Craigslist, etc. We are not looking to profit off of these animals. The money we spend on their food or veterinary care greatly outweighs the small donation. But we find that charging the small adoption fee of $20 (unless otherwise specified, for an animal which cost us particularly large medical charges) dissways people from thinking the pet is "disposable", as it were, because they didn't pay for it anyway. We never profit from the adoption fees or donations; ALL money goes directly into an account to buy food, housing, or medical attention for the rescues.
A few people offer additional, larger donations to the rescue, either when surrendering an animal to us, or adopting an animal from us. This is accepted and greatly appreciated! We are not charging for our time and energy. A small additional reimbursement of food and medical expenses for the animal is always helpful, but never required!

Finally, not only do we not sell our rescues, but we don't breed them. All of the above listed things are commonplace by other rescues. Many of them deny it, some of them don't; you have our word that that is not how we operate! Our reptile breeding projects are separate from our rescue projects!
Thank You for reading, and for trusting 316 Reptiles to rescue, rehabilitate, & rehome the creatures we love :)
