What does A 1 EZ Move do?

A 1 EZ Move is a locally owned and operated moving company capable of commercial and residential moves. We relocate people’s things as easily as possible for them.

Moving can be very frustrating, and it can make a big difference if you call a considerate moving company that cares about customer service like we do, especially if it doesn’t come out of your pocket very deep.

We charge $75 per hour with a two-hour minimum for two men and a fully dressed truck, and we do most of our work within 50 miles of Fort Wayne.

Businesses that rent trucks for do-it-yourself moves provide our main competition; moving yourself is about the only way to beat our price.

What is your history in the business?

I’ve been doing it all my life. I’m about 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, and my momma joked that she had me so I could move things for her. I helped her do a lot of that as I was a teenager and started doing it for a living in my early 20s.

There’s an art to it, and I got very good at it. People love to work with me. When we’re loading, I can look at something and tell them if it will fit or not, and where it will fit.

I treat everything as carefully as if it were mine, and I like good things. I keep the crew at a brisk pace, but we go slowly enough to make sure we don’t damage anything. I plan and I pay close attention to what I’m doing all the time because you can get hurt if you don’t.

I worked for two moving companies before teaming up with an investor who is a very experienced mover to start EZ Move. Customers were telling me I should start my own business.

What is ahead for the business?

We want to be the largest local moving company in Fort Wayne. I can’t wait until I get nine or 10 trucks flying through the streets.

I plan on buying the business, and someday I’d also like to own a storage business and a cleaning company. I could send the cleaning company in to clean the houses people have left after they have moved as part of a package deal.

What do you like about your work?

I enjoy it because you meet new people all the time and every move is different. And it’s awesome exercise; you exercise and make money. What gym can do that?

Do any moments stand out in your moving career?

We moved a lady out of a house that was on its own little island. It seemed like we had to carry everything about a quarter of a mile across this bridge to get it loaded on the truck.

It took about 18 hours. And it was in December. And there was a breeze. We thought it would never end. Fortunately, I had brought a large lunch that saved everybody.

What have you learned from your work?

It’s important to respect yourself and other people and other people’s stuff. Communication is important and patience is important. I try to keep a smile on my face.
