Amherstburg Royal Naval Dockyard was a Royal Navy yard from 1796 to 1813 in Amherstburg, Ontario. The yard comprised blockhouses, store houses, magazine, wood yard and wharf.Vessels built or serviced at the yard included: Ottawa – schooner built in Detroit c.1778 Chippewa – built in Detroit c.1790 Dunmore – schooner built in Detroit, 1772 Francis – sloop built in Detroit, 1796 General Hope – schooner Candem – schooner General Hunter – brig Queen Charlotte – built at Kingston Royal Naval Dockyard and serviced in Amherstburg 2nd – schooner – schooner 1812 – brig 1807 It was a major naval base on the Detroit River, with easy access to Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. The yard was burned and abandoned in 1812 during the early stages of the War of 1812 and re-located to the Penetanguishene Naval Yard.The site of the yard was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1928.
