The Archives at Rose-Hulman traces back to its founding in 1874. Since then, records, photographs, artifacts and other items of historical value to the institute have been collected and preserved by the numerous Institute Librarians and stored in the library. The items in the archives have been used for administrative and curricula research by inside constituents, by alumni and family of alumni, by external constituents researching the history of engineering education, and for historic displays in the Alumni Center or at special events.
In 2004, the archives went digital as we began digitizing a portion of the collection and making them available for online research through our partnership with the Wabash Valley Visions and Voices project. This is an ongoing and growing endeavor.
In 2010, Logan Library underwent a complete renovation which required the Archives to be moved offsite for the duration of the renovation and then moved back to the library when the renovation was complete. This created the challenge and the opportunity to transform what was once a collection of archival material into a professionally managed, professionally organized archives. Our goal is to make the Archives and Special Collections more usable, visible, and better preserved so that it can continue to meet the research needs of our users for generations to come.
