Athletic Principles

Dory Smith has spent the past 30 years in Sports Management and as a high school coach and athletic director. Her passion for high school athletics and doing things the right way has given her the opportunity to speak at conferences and sportsmanship summits at the state and national levels.


Throughout her 15 years as athletic director at two St. Louis schools, Dory has been extensively involved with the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) at the state level, and nationally with the NIAAA.


Dory served on the MSHSAA Board of Appeals for nine years and has addressed the Missouri State Legislature two times on behalf of the MSHSAA. She has also been an NIAAA Leadership Training Institute instructor on six occasions at MSHSAA conferences and workshops.


Within the state athletic directors organization, Dory was chosen president-elect of the MIAAA in 2013 and has been a speaker at three MIAAA state conferences.


Nationally, Dory served a three-year term on the NIAAA Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012 and a six-year term on the NIAAA Credentials Committee from 2003 to 2009. She was appointed to the NIAAA Strategic Planning Committee and has written articles for the NIAAA’s publication, Interscholastic Athletic Administration.


Dory has also presented several times on Title IX panels. She will be speaking in June, 2016 at the Independent School Gender Project 2016 Summer Conference.


Dory earned her Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) certification in 2004 and Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) certification in 2007. She has completed 20 Leadership Training Classes within the NIAAA’s Leadership Training Institute. She received the NFHS Citation Award in 2014 at the National Conference for her work at the state and national levels.
