More about Augusta Historic Theatre & Augusta Arts Council

Formed in September of 1975 as an outgrowth of the local PRIDE committee, the Augusta Arts Council has existed in the community as a driving and preserving force for the local arts.

In September 1989 AAC purchased the Augusta Theatre to preserve the facility as a movie theater, offering quality, affordable entertainment for the public - as well as to enhance its historical and architectural value to the community. Through the efforts of the AAC, the Theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in October of 1990. Today, the Theatre is the home of AAC's administrative office and the site of many of its programs.

Over 23,000 patrons come through our doors each year, not only for movies and the Council's programming, but for a variety of activities generated by other community organizations, schools and individuals.
