Aunt Gerties Hot Dogs

Greg Parrett – was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, New York. Growing up in New York and in High school no time or money to have a great lunch. If you know a New Yorker we are always on the go. I worked part-time as a messenger in New York City, my dad, aunts and uncles as well; so you can imagine, a hot dog could be really important. As I grew up, I knew where all the good carts were and I can remember that on some of the carts, the server would just grab the dog with his hands. I can also remember that most of the hots dogs had a “snap” to their skin.
I eat hot dogs plain – don’t want to ruin the hot dog – but many people like sauerkraut and a variety of condiments on them.
As most of you know, baseball was a big thing in those days: Yankees, Dodgers, Giants. I love baseball and actually tried out for the Yankees. I spent a lot of time at Yankee stadium where my Aunt Gertie sold hot dogs. Aunt Gertie was a stout Irish woman with the New York accent and would yell:” get your dog here”. I have never forgotten that and never will.
Several years ago my wife said, lets buy a hot dog cart”. I agreed, but said we have to name it after Aunt Gertie.
Today I am retired from my construction company. Since I love people and consider myself a hot dog connoisseur, what better business to pursue than “Aunt Gerties Hot Dogs?” I have eaten many different brands of hot dogs, but my favorite is Millers Hot Dogs. They are excellent quality, all natural ingredients, no MSG and Gluten free. Millers has a variety, so we serve Polish, Hot links, beef skinned and skinless and occasionally garlic. Yes, its ok if you add condiments. Your choice of mustard, ketchup, relish, onions, sauerkraut and even jalapeños.
The reward is when the customer comes back and says it was so good, they’ll have another one.

Greg loves people and as a cabbie once said, “ he’s quite a yapper” so the hot dog cart idea was a dream come true – serving hot dogs and meeting people.
They are available by appointment for events of all kinds from sports to fundraisers to parties.
