The AWANA verse is 2 Timothy 2:15 which states: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." From this verse comes the acronym AWANA which stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed."
AWANA is a club for boys and girls from three years old through the eighth grade. The purpose of AWANA is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and train them to serve Christ. That purpose is accomplished by teaching each child what the Gospel is. Every person on Earth is a sinner. The Bible tells us that we must all die because we are sinners. Here is where the good news comes in; When we believe that Jesus came to Earth and died on the cross to take the penalty for our sins, then we receive eternal life!
Once the child is rooted in this truth, he or she learns more about how a Christian should act and live. The child is also encouraged to tell others about the Gospel. By studying and memorizing God's Word, the child may recall verses to help cope with life and also to share the Gospel with others.
