Bak Sida Thai

We are two young women who have spent the majority of our lives cooking and traveling. Always engaging in what is fundamental to us all, what sustains us, holds us and nurtures us, what we tend and care for and in tern carries our stories. Always exploring our place as a part of the rhythm of all things. Food has always been a beautiful living demonstration of the connection of a people to their environment and their evolution together. By searching to eat traditional foods we can remember the wisdom and lives of those that came before. By eating foreign cuisine we hopeful cultivate respect and appreciation for the diversity within our world as we merge more and more into a global community. Decreasing estrangement and judgment for our neighbors. We find ourselves living in a time where we are struggling to remember our relationship with the land and our respect for each other. Our goal is to acknowledge cuisine as an integral part of the ecosystem of culture that belongs to the people and cradles knowledge of how to live in harmony. We are inspired by the humanity of the traditions and practices of Thai cooking and we adore its flavors of vitality. We therefore aim to cook unassuming Thai food inspired by a place where our favorite dishes are cooked outside and over a blazing fire.
We have each spent a bit of time in Thailand, mostly in the northeast and always found ourselves in the village kitchens helping to prepare meals, writing down recipes and stuffing our backpacks with unique kitchen tools. But most recently and importantly we have been fortunate to be the students of a brilliant man and Thai chef, Tokyo. As well as our dear friend who is a much more dedicated student of Thai culture, language and food then us, Ezekiel Smith. Thank you both!
