Black Creek Township is a township in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States southwest of historic route PA 93 (the early USA's Lehigh-Susquehanna Turnpike), and just west of I-81, the northeast corner through which passes I-80 south and east of Susquehanna River. The majority of the township's occupied terrain is oriented along Black Creek's (Southern Luzerne County tributary of Nescopeck_Creek) water gap cutting through relatively steep landscape of the mountainous terrain. The population was 2,016 at the 2010 census.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 24.6sqmi, of which 24.5sqmi is land and 0.1sqmi, or 0.45%, is water. The Black Creek running through the township is several miles south of the other left bank Susquehanna tributary stream in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, also named Black Creek (Susquehanna River), which is north of Turtle Creek. Within the township, Black Creek is shaped like a squared-off boxy 'J' glyph (capital letter) laid on its long side, where each limb parallels and is encompassed by the sides of the townships borders on the East, North, and through the south-lower-center of the township. The stream enters E-to-W from its origin in the adjacent township. The hook of the J or North leg, represents its outlet into Nescopeck_Creek via which its waters flow to the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay drainage basins.
