Why a Foundation?
Funding for public schools in Michigan is controlled at the state level and has been constrained for many years. Chronic statewide budget problems are creating hardships for local school districts. Over the last 20 years, state funds to BHS have lagged the consumer price index by 40%, making it increasingly difficult to keep in place our set of highly regarded programs.
The fundraising and programming efforts of the BHS Foundation will directly support the BHS by providing private funding to supplement the money distributed by the state. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the BHS Foundation can effectively fundraise for the district and use funds to support programs and activities.
