Cakes Plus Tampa

Nina Torres is the owner of Cakes Plus. A native of Puerto Rico, she brings more than 35 years of cake decorating experience to her South Tampa store and to her customers. She also opened a location in Westchase in 2015 at 9612 W. Linebaugh in Tampa.

Her former career in diet and nutrition prepared her well for the demands of owning her own business. She opened Cakes Plus in April 1992 as a place to find one-of-a-kind cakes as well as hard-to-find cake decorating accessories.

Nina’s custom cakes are original, “My cakes are more than just desserts,” says Torres. “These cakes reflect the bride’s unique style, or a mother's dream for her child's birthday celebration, and will never be forgotten.” She incorporates decorating techniques from Australia, England, the Philippines, Mexico, South Africa and the United States to create her spectacular cakes for all occasions. And wait until you taste her “secret recipe” cakes…delicious! In fact, Nina’s cake won first place for taste and flavor in Tampa Bay’s First Annual Wedding Cake Judging Contest! Nina has also won the award for Hispanic Heritage Business Woman of The Year 2001. She was also voted the “Best of Weddings” in 2007, 2008 and 2009 by The Knot Magazine. Nina is a member of the Better Business Bureau and Member of International Cake Exploration Societe (ICES).

Her son Mario Torres is now a specialty cake baker and brings expertise in creating stunning 3D cakes to the stores. They now have a Westchase location in addition to their anchor store in South Tampa.
