California Tribal College

There are 37 tribal colleges and universities serving 27,000+ Native Americans in 14 states and Canada. There are no tribal colleges in California—and college enrollment among the Native population in our state has dropped dramatically over the past 15 years.

We believe a tribally-controlled college will promote greater access to higher education opportunities. Higher education is the key to opening the door for a better standard of living in tribal communities. By establishing a tribal college, tribal members who would not normally attend college will begin to do so, affecting positive change within their families and their communities.

After more than five years of research and consultation among tribal, education, and business leaders, the California Tribal College is becoming a reality, laying the foundation for an enduring institution. The California Tribal College will provide an environment to help Native students succeed, incorporating tribal cultures and languages into its mission to educate tomorrow’s business and tribal leaders.
