More about Campbells Place

Campbell’s Place is an “Old World” tavern styled after an English pub. A lively unpretentious atmosphere serving affordable New American fare along with an extensive selection of fine draught beers and wines. Dine in a cozy booth, at the 100 year old bar, or at the “V” bar and upstairs dining room. A neighborhood gathering spot, “Chestnut Hill’s Cheers” is located on Germantown Avenue just below Gravers Lane.

Campbell’s Place, a Chestnut Hill institution for nearly four decades, changed hands October 2008 as Mary Campbell retired and longtime Chestnut Hill resident Vanessa Noonan Mullen and her husband Rob Mullen assumed control of the business.

While the Mullens have maintained Campbell’s charming, timeless atmosphere, Rob’s vision for the Campbell’s kitchen includes “A focus on delicious and high quality food made with the freshest local ingredients.” Rob has strong ties to local and regional farmers and suppliers from his work in the catering industry and intends to create a menu that utilizes seasonal ingredients.

Rob Mullen, manager and Executive Chef of Campbell’s, is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He has also worked for the Grand Hyatt both in Manhattan and Beaver Creek, CO. Currently Rob owns his own catering company that operates in music venues such as the Tweeter, Wachovia and Tower Theatre and their visiting artists. He was executive chef for such events locally as Live8, has toured as a chef with U2 and Phish.

Campbell’s legions of local fans appreciate the cozy booths and brick walls lined with the featured artist of the month, and the antique mahogany bar. The location at Germantown Avenue and Gravers Lane has always made it a central gathering spot, drawing friendly and loyal crowds on weeknights and weekends alike.

While Mary Campbell, a fixture in Chestnut Hill, may no longer be at the helm, be assured that under the Mullens ownership Campbell’s will continue in its tradition of hosting the Chestnut Hill community with outstanding food and spirits for many years to come.
