Situated at the center of picturesque Harkers Island, along Cape Lookout National Seashore, Captain’s Choice Restaurant was established May 16, 1986. It combines casual tradition and friendly service for the best in “Down East” dining!

You’re invited to enjoy cool sea breezes as you relax on our outdoor deck. Then come on in and experience the history of the area depicted through coastal wall hangings, shore birds, framed Decoy Festival posters from years gone by, and Harkers Island work boat models locally crafted by Stevie Lewis. Each authentic porthole window is adorned with genuine fishnet fabric, while a large ship’s wheel accents the buffet.

Owners and operators of Captain’s Choice Restaurant, Steve and Gail Lancaster, take pride in providing hungry guests with carefully prepared meals that even Grandma would be proud to call her own! Nightly specials are offered, with a full menu available anytime. We specialize in fresh seafood (local when available), our own original recipe prime rib, rib eye steaks and fresh homemade desserts. Captain’s Choice offers weekday lunch specials, including sandwiches, burgers, soups, chowders, and garden fresh salad bar, along with light meals featuring seafood and country cooking. In addition, a variety of delicious complimentary homemade desserts are offered during lunch. A special children’s menu is available for lunch and dinner.

Weekends are always special at Captain’s Choice. The “all you care to eat” seafood buffets on Friday and Saturday evenings are spectacular, but if you prefer country cooking, our Sunday lunch buffet will suit your fancy! We offer country cooking, as well as a trio of fried seafood, peel and eat shrimp, garden fresh salad bar, and scrumptious desserts. Be sure to sample our irresistible “Down East” clam chowder, once featured in “Our State” magazine.
