More about Chateau Lettau Winery

We work with premium grapes from the Paso Robles area - including Rhône, Bordeaux and Spanish varietals - allowing each to display its own singular characteristics and personality.

History

The owner, Ron Nodder, spent his youth in the great wine regions of Northern California's Napa and Sonoma Valleys.

"I remember walking hand in hand with my grandfather through the vineyards" he says, "witnessing the centuries-old process of transforming grapes to wines."

These memories created an intense desire to continue the family tradition in his adult life. After moving to California's Central Coast, he was introduced to the vineyards and wines of the Paso Robles region and the dream was fulfilled. Named after his wife, Tawnya Lettau, Chateau Lettau combines the passion of a lifelong dream with world class grapes to produce exceptional wines at a reasonable price.

"From our family to yours, enjoy!"

Our Wines

All of our grapes are sourced from vineyards in California's Central Coast - most from Paso Robles' exclusive west side. We crush, ferment, age, blend, bottle and store according to the individual vintage's unique characteristics. We eschew mass production techniques in favor of small hand crafted methods that bring out the very best the grapes have to offer based on a combination of the terroir, climate, vineyard and varietal.

Our Winemaker

Winemaker Ian Brand’s favorite task is to drive down dirt roads and knock on doors whenever he spots rows of unfamiliar grapevines. With permission granted he “pokes around in the soil to see what’s going on.”

Soil types aren’t everyone’s idea of a thrill, but California's Central Coast dirt qualifies as an action-packed frontier for Brand in his quest for ideal fruit-and-soil combinations.

“I look for varieties that are planted in the right place,” he said. “My wife makes fun of me for having an overly feminine hand in the winery. A light touch. I want the grape and the site to express itself.”

Brand has no favorite variety, but works gradually toward creating a delicate, precise structure in his wines – and nice, long finishes.

As Chateau Lettau's winemaker since 2009, and the person behind many of our award-winning wines, we're looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship together.
