Community Youth Builders

Community Youth Builders is an organization, located in Jackson, TN, that was designed by a group of minority contractors and other community members. Its purpose is to provide at risk youth that reside in West, TN with the foundational building blocks needed for professional success through skills training, encourage goal setting, provide mentoring, enhance community pride, and offer other alternative activities for young men who may be leaning toward violence and or other criminal activity.

Due to the significant increase in criminal activities such as gang violence, theft and assaults within our community many citizens are prepared to voluntarily work with Community Youth Builders. Our ultimate goal is to produce a population of young people who have the skills and ability needed to become productive, responsible citizens and taxpayers.
Although we will eventually expand into other areas of training we will begin by utilizing the skills of board members that own and operate construction businesses. Our first group of participants will be trained in various areas of that trade. We also have retired educators that will work with those that need to earn a GED. While working with these young men we will also address life skills such as decision making, spiritual growth, financial planning, community services and restitution.

Program participants will be selected through referral from the criminal justice system, foster homes, and other community organizations that work with at risk youth. A client selection process is currently being developed that will enable the organization to determine the strengths, weaknesses, and determination to succeed by each participant. Goals and plans of action will be formed and followed by the participant, appropriate trainer(s) and mentor.
