More about CSUSM Temecula

Our History

California State University San Marcos is known for its innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to providing access to a high quality education, and for preparing graduates with relevant curricula and skills necessary to drive economic development in the region. California State University San Marcos at Temecula presents a unique and exciting opportunity to develop a 21st century higher education hub for Southwest Riverside County.

In spring of 2008, CSUSM entered into a visionary partnership with the City of Temecula and community leaders demonstrating a commitment to establish an off-campus center, Cal State San Marcos at Temecula. On January 5, 2009, the University began offering an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with a cohort of 50 students at the Paul Goldring Garrett Institute for Higher Learning located in an industrial park in Temecula. This first location was funded through generous donations from local developer, Paul Garrett, Southwest Healthcare Systems, EDGE Development Corporation, and the City of Temecula Redevelopment Agency.

With a continued demand for educational opportunities and partners with a vision of the potential for higher education in the region, the center moved to an educational facility on Margarita Road just north of Temecula Parkway. The Temecula Valley Unified School District is providing use of the facility through a $1 per year lease for ten years. Through redevelopment funds the City of Temecula awarded CSUSM a $3 million grant and the City of Murrieta awarded a $200,000 grant to fund the renovations and ongoing development of this dynamic learning center.

Our Campus

CSUSM-Temecula occupies one of two buildings on Temecula Valley Unified School District property. This state of the art facility is comprised of five standard smart classrooms, a science lab with the latest equipment and modeling tools and a video conferencing room which accommodates up to 60 students. A nursing skills lab allows students an opportunity to practice building their skills in a safe environment, and a nursing simulation lab gives students an opportunity to experience a variety of real-world applications through robotics and computer applications. In addition to the nursing labs, kinesiology students take advantage of a state of the art training lab and outdoor field area. A student lounge provides six computer stations with printer access and an area for individual or group study.

Our Programs

Degree seeking students are offered five undergraduate and two master’s degree programs from which to choose, and additional new programs are being developed to match the workforce needs of the region. Each degree program has specific requirements unique to each program, and all are offered in a cohort-based model with block scheduling; thus nurturing a unique support base and richness of learning among students. Our students are upper division students completing their last two years of academic study.

Working professionals increase their job marketability simply by adding new skills, or enhance existing skills through a number of noncredit program certificates at the Temecula campus. Many of these programs do not require previous coursework making it easy to gain entry. Most of the programs are approved for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) participants.

Young adults over the age of 50 engage in intellectually stimulating classes for the pure joy of learning with their peers through participation in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute,
