Since 1991, Bob Moats of Waynesboro has been leading participants in country and western dancing at the old Quincy High School as founder and president of the Cumberland Valley Country Western Dance Association.

QUINCY - Since 1991, Bob Moats of Waynesboro has been leading participants in country and western dancing at the old Quincy High School, bringing the gymnasium back to life with the sight of guys and gals twirling and the sound of boots stomping.
As founder and president of the Cumberland Valley Country Western Dance Association, the group which hosts the dances the 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month in Quincy, Moats also serves as disc jockey and dance instructor.
The group meets on Monday nights in the same location to practice dances and learn new steps; weekend (1st & 3rd Sat) dances are a chance for the club members to put into motion what they learned in practice. The dances are open to everyone, not just members of the association.

"Some people have been with us since the beginning," Moats said.

Moats, who has also taught lessons at Wilson College, Shippensburg University and area YMCAs in the past, said that anyone can learn how to line dance, as long as they remain patient.
"A lot of people think they're going to pick it up after one time," he said, adding it usually takes a month or two to feel comfortable with the steps and the rhythm.
"We encourage anybody to come out," Moats said. "No matter who they are, we'll work with them."
