I have just got started into the goat farming starting last October of 2013. I love dairy goats especially the Alpines. My boys are getting into showing the goats at shows and like it a lot. It is very fun and rewarding. I love the fresh goats milk and the children can't get enough! I like to use herbs in place of chemicals when possible and feed non gmo foods. I am a big fan of Fir Meadow's and Land of Havilah farms herbs and worming formulas. I feed alfalfa pellets, pearl barley and whole oats and local grass hay. I add thorvin kelp( free choice a must!!)and Wick's high copper mineral to their food and free choice as well. I would not want to be without thorvin kelp, I have used it since my start based on Joel Salatin's suggestion(Love all his books, especially Folk's this ain't normal). The goats will eat the kelp frequently. I also use Sea 90 sea salt free choice, and the himalayan salt on a rope at Tractor Supply( they love it), the thorvin kelp free choice. I love the Fiasco website, and this is where I learned the most on goat care and how to disbud. I have found that chia seeds at a tbsp a day helps with milk production. I also use apple cider viegar from Bragg's for the goats(about 2 tsp a day) . I like to use organic forms of foods when available. I love milking and will probably never be without dairy goats again. I would eventually like to participate in some ADGA programs, to get milk stars and such. I can help you disbud ( 3 days old), trim feet ( every 3 to 4 weeks), tattoo ( 6 weeks old), and wether ( 4 weeks old). We will now be raising a few Cheviot Sheep as well. thanks for reading
