Downtown Hendersonville’s vitality is no accident. The community has worked together to promote the district while preserving the area’s history and unique architectural character. In 1988, the Historic Downtown district was entered into the National Register of Historic Places and last year marked the 25th anniversary of Hendersonville’s designation as a member of the North Carolina Main Street Program. Today, Historic Downtown Hendersonville is one of 61 such organizations in North Carolina to hold membership in the state Main Street Program. The state and local programs are part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and are dedicated to the revitalization and success of Hendersonville’s central business district.
