Dr. Gideon J. Lewis looks forward to treating you in his Central Florida practice! As a renowned sports medicine lower extremity specialist, he is well known for working with professional athletes from a wide array of sports. He is double Board Certified in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle and Foot Surgery. Dr. Lewis is a proud Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and he completed his Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency at Florida Hospital with extensive training in Advanced Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Lewis earned his Doctorate degree at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, training at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine teaching hospitals.
He is a proud University of Central Florida (UCF) alumnus, having earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Microbiology there. In the Spring of 2014, Dr. Lewis was the Keynote Speaker for the UCF graduation with an audience over 10,000 people.

Dr. Lewis is very active in academics, as he is a Clinical Professor with the Florida State University College of Medicine and an Assistant Professor with the UCF College of Medicine. Most recently he was named Chief Sports Medicine Faculty Advisory for the UCF College of Medicine (OSMIG) and appointed to UCF’s Student Athlete Leadership Center Advisory Council. He is also the founder and Director for the UCF Pre-Medical Surgical Internship Program. Since 2011, four of his student-interns have been awarded the Order of Pegasus, UCF’s highest award. And two students have been accepted into Harvard Medical School.

He also trains surgical residents as an attending physician for Florida Hospital’s Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency program.

In 2010, Dr. Lewis was selected as the first recipient for the “Rising Star Award” presented by the UCF College of Medicine. The faculty and administration selected Dr. Lewis from a pool of more than ten thousand alumni for this honor, citing his outstanding work and achievements within UCF and the Central Florida community.

As a former Division 1 collegiate athlete, Dr. Lewis has a passion for athletics and specializes in sports medicine. He routinely treats current and former professional athletes from the NBA, NFL, MLB, X-Games, and Olympics. Dr. Lewis is the Chief Medical Director for the Star Athletics training team. The group is home to 20 Olympic athletes including USA Olympic medalists Justin Gatlin, Jeff Demps, and Kellie Wells. He will continue this position through the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Dr. Lewis is the former Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board for Milesplit.com, the nation’s largest online high school and college track and field network. He was also the Official Event Physician for Dwight Howard’s 2011 Celebrity All-Star Basketball Game, which featured NBA players, rapper Lil Wayne and World Champion boxer Floyd Mayweather.

In 2014 Dr. Lewis was recognized as one of the Top 5 Facebook users in Central Florida by the Orlando Sentinel. Dr. Lewis remains active in the Central Florida community with his involvement in multiple organizations. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Kerosene Lamp Foundation, founded by former NBA player Adonal Foyle and also serves on the Board of Advisory for Dwight Howard’s D12 Foundation. He was selected by the FBI to participate in their distinguished FBI Citizen’s Academy and completed this training in Washington D.C. and Quantico, Virginia. Dr. Lewis continues to remain active with their local and national alumni associations.

During his free time, Dr. Lewis enjoys staying very active. He is an avid runner who participates in half-marathons. He also enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time with his family, and especially supporting his UCF Knights!!
