I grew up with Thoroughbred horses and spent my summers on the backstretch of racetracks in Arizona, California, and Caliente, Mexico. By the age of twelve, I had developed a keen interest in Equine Veterinary Medicine.
After working several summers in Newmarket, England and receiving the C.T.B.A. Scholarship for Outstanding Equine Veterinary Student in my Junior year at U.C. Davis, I earned my D.V.M. degree in 1976.
Instead of returning to the racetrack, I chose to start my veterinary career as a farm practitioner in Santa Ynez Valley, California. Large Thoroughbred farms were my specialty, and working at them allowed me to develop expertise in areas of reproduction, pediatrics, and surgery. Eventually, I became resident Veterinarian for Cardiff Stud Farm in Creston,California, one of California’s premier breeding and training facilities at the time.
I moved to Grass Valley in 1992 and started a mobile equine practice servicing Nevada and Placer counties. After taking a brief break from Veterinary Medicine, I returned in 2005 on a part time basis in a local group large animal practice.
Since restarting my solo equine practice, I find that I am caring for many of the same patients and friends I had serviced since 1992. I am happy to be back on my own so that I can provide a more personal service to my clients and their horses.
