Our dream is to inspire our program students to grow every day. Dreams of America, therefore, offers Opportunity Through Equality to developmentally disabled adults by building up their skills, talents and levels of self-sufficiency. To do justice to our mission, we serve all students – regardless of their disabilities – and always with respect, dignity and a focus on facilitating life-changing personal growth.
A Comprehensive 5-Point Program
Self-Care: We work with students every day to develop their self-care skills, which range from learning to use the toilet more efficiently to practicing good hygiene.
Self-Advocacy: Students will always be encouraged to make their own choices, and we will always respect those decisions. Every Monday morning, we make a calendar with each student so that they can choose which activities they’d like to engage in that week.
Regular Physical Exercise: We make exercise fun with dance, group games and more. A fitness coach also teaches a 20-30 minute exercise class once a week.
Employment Training: We help students gain job-related skills through participating in community-based volunteer work.
Community Integration: From having lunch at the Irvine Spectrum to volunteering at a local food bank, everyone will have the opportunity to participate in activities in the community.
