Eisbahn Outdoor Ice Skating Rink

In 2005, the Fredericksburg Lifeline Foundation started Eisbahn as a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. In 2008, after three successful years, the Lifeline Foundation found it necessary to find a new entity to manage and run Eisbahn. If a suitable organization could not be found locally, the rink inventory would be sold, and Eisbahn would no longer remain in Fredericksburg.

With the backing of more than 150 volunteer parents, grandparents, and students, Heritage School stepped up to assume responsibility for the event, saving Eisbahn for Fredericksburg. Volunteer participation by families of Heritage School makes it possible for Eisbahn to continue to donate a portion of the proceeds to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of the efforts of the original founders of the rink, and this year, to Boys and Girls Club of Fredericksburg, as well.

The only event of its kind, Eisbahn draws skaters and their families from across the Hill Country and Texas. Today Eisbahn is an integral part of the holiday festivities in Fredericksburg, attracting skaters and spectators from the many visitors who come to Fredericksburg to celebrate the Christmas spirit from local communities and metropolitan areas.

Locals and tourists participate side-by-side in this unique holiday attraction. Eisbahn has grown each year from 4,300 skaters in 2008, to a record 8,000 skaters in 2012. This year Eisbahn expects host 8,700 skaters during the festive season from November 29, 2013 to January 3, 2014.
