Our Logo - Why the butterfly?
When we first started reviewing materials for activity based (hands-on) science we were exposed to the National Science Resources Center's (NSRC's) Science and Technology for Children (STC) kits. One of the kits demonstrated was the Life Cycle of the Butterfly. We subsequently used that kit to show school administrators and business leaders the quality and value of hands-on science. After introduction into the school curriculum the butterfly kit has become one of the most popular and successful activities in the science curriculum.
A mother once called the curriculum office to thank the schools for changing her daughter's attitude toward school. The second grade girl had not enjoyed school and was not doing well until her class used the butterfly kit. According to her mother the little girl's outlook on school improved and she started doing much better in all subjects due to her participation in the butterfly kit activities.
We feel the butterfly is an appropriate symbol for ETHOS.
