More about FIU College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts

Welcome to FIU and the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts!

Committed to an interdisciplinary curriculum with experiential learning opportunities that prepare our graduates for gainful and meaningful employment, the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) has become a national model for arts and design education. Our fully-accredited academic departments take advantage of our South Florida location by engaging in innovative problem-solving initiatives with our local and global communities.

Unique in composition and mission, CARTA has offered distinguished degree programs in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design, Art + Art History, Communication, Music, and Theatre for over ten years. As of 2016, we are excited to announce that FIU’s prestigious School of Journalism and Mass Communication has integrated with CARTA, creating additional degree programs in Communication and Journalism + Media through our newly formed School of Communication + Journalism (SCJ). This new strategic partnership combines the power of the arts and communication to foster interdisciplinary research and degree offerings that better prepare students for the 21st century’s information, technology, and innovation economies.

With the integration, CARTA’s total number of undergraduate and graduate students is now over 2000, and we have grown to an impressive 100 full-time faculty and professional staff members, making our college as accomplished and diverse as Miami itself. This new collaboration has also brought together state-of-the art educational and performance facilities, such as the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture Building, Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, the FIU Broadcast Studio, and the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication. There are also even more creative opportunities across our newly-joined departments to leverage the resources of the CARTA Miami Beach Urban Studios + CARTA Innovation Lab which are located in one of the most vibrant urban art centers in the world.

Whether you are a student, parent, alum, or patron, I invite you to learn more about our distinguished programs by contacting me at schriner@fiu.edu or by exploring our website carta.fiu.edu.

Thank you for your continued support,

Brian Schriner, Dean
