Since then, the museum has expanded to depict the history of Old Point Comfort, Fort Monroe, and the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps. The museum highlights the Contraband Decision, which took place in the early days of the Civil War and had far-reaching influence on the unraveling of slavery in the United States and earned Fort Monroe the nickname "Freedom's Fortress."
