Fresh Food + Fresh Ideas + Fresh Coast
We're a small diversified farm located on the Fresh Coast in Southwest Michigan. Our 60 acre property has largely been ignored for many years and not farmed intensively for nearly two decades. The Good: no toxic herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides have been applied in at least two decades resulting in a rich a diverse ecosystem and soils that are relatively healthy. The Bad: Lack of infrastructure and land maintenance present some challenges in starting a farm from scratch. The Ugly: large sections of usable land have been 'let go' and are now established with thick stands of impenetrable brush. Creating a vibrant, working farm in this landscape will take years of work but we are committed to establishing a premier farm that focuses on regenerative agricultural practices in a silvopasture system - where we rotate grazing animals (chickens, pigs, goats, cattle, etc.) with annual crops (vegetables, grains) between rows of perennial fruit and nut trees.
We are also helping to develop a small farm business plan that can help other small farmers succeed even with faced with the increasing challenges of land access, market access, regulatory oversight, and vertically integrated industrial agriculture.
