Girlsing Singing, Songwriting & Creative Arts Camp

5 DAY CAMP (M-F) from 9 AM-4:30 (Early drop off 8:30 AM; Late pick up 5:00 PM). Empowering young girls’ creative spirits through meaningful songs (part-singing, chants, harmony, rounds), journaling, songwriting from the heart, musical field trips, community singing and self-reflective art projects plus fun and outdoor activities and hikes. Family music sharing event on Thursday night. Ages 8-12 (with some exceptions). Camp limited to 14 participants. Each girl will receive individual attention.

At GirlSing, we create a soulful environment that nurtures creative, self expression through small/full group activities, group singing and song/lyric writing and an empowering art project. We sing songs with positive, empowering messages and give girls an opportunity to explore the songs/lyrics they love and "why" through song-synergy, lyric-listening and metaphor-simile exercises.

In the spirit of self empowerment , GirlSing camp includes songs that point to the true nature of inner beauty with related songwriting activities and a corresponding art project. The songs we sing* (rounds, part songs, chants, meaningful contemporary songs in a variety of genres) each have an empowering message that encourages and/or promotes:

1) Inner Strength
2) Self Discovery
3) Group Cooperation
4) Individual Growth
5) Social Awareness and
6) Gratitude.
*Examples songs include Beautiful (Christina Aguilara), I Am Thankful (joyful part song), Three Little Birds (Bob Marley), This Pretty Planet (Round about the Earth), I Am a Tower of Strength (individual empowerment song), etc.

In a guided imagery activity the girls are lead to a “Gazing Pool” where images of their inner strength and their good works in the world are seen. These ideas lead the girls into a personal art project that incorporates these images into their own “Gazing Pool” art piece.

In addition to singing indoors, we also spend time singing, journaling and writing lyrics in nature (e.g., along sourdough creek) and at Soroptomist Park. We also bring spontaneous smiles to people's faces on our downtown field trip to the Bozeman Co-op, where the girls participate in spontaneous "street singing" and "community music" sharing at the Co-op.
