After I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from The College of Saint Rose in 2004, I knew in my heart that one day I would accomplish my passionate goal of opening a wellness center. I was thrilled to see my dream unfold October of 2016 after a series of synchronistic events unfolded in a matter of weeks. I was actually contemplating entering a contest to win a Wellness Center in Colonie, NY. That year I had created a vision board and on it I had win $10,000 and open a wellness center. When I saw the contest to win a wellness center and $10,000 in wellness equipment I thought for sure I was being guided to up and move my business. However, there was an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach that said, don’t go, stay. It just so happened that in my building where I have my private practice a pilates studio had moved to a different location and the space was vacant….right down the hall from me!!! My wellness studio was staring me right in my face for months and I never paid any mind to renting this space until I contemplated entering this wellness center contest. The challenge was facing my fears and the self doubt of wondering if I could actually afford to do this and the fear that no one would show up to classes. Silly fear! So I did what most people are afraid to do and faced my insecurities and fear head on and signed a lease within a week of what I call the lightbulb turning on. I did not have the start up money to buy the supplies and did not want to enter into debt immediately. I then put this “world is abundant” theory into play and asked for help from my community to help me get on my feet and created a gofundme campaign to purchase all the yoga supplies, paint, curtains and the basics of what I need to just open my doors. With the help of my friends and family who love me and the community that believes in me I was able to raise $1,800 to start the wellness center. It has been up and running since October of 2016 and I couldn’t be happier every time a class of mine sells a ticket and people walk through the door to enjoy the space and the classes we have to offer. Dreams do come true, ask and your shall receive.
