Applying for Public Housing

If you are interested in Public Housing in the County of Hardin, you need to apply.

Instructions: Please read carefully. Incomplete applications will NOT be processed.
1. This application is valid for all public housing properties operated by this Housing Authority.

2. To be qualified for admission to public housing an applicant must:
A. Be a family as defined in PHA's Admission and Continued Occupancy Policy
B. Meet the HUD requirements on citizenship or immigration status
C. Have an Annual Income at the time of admission that does not exceed the income limits established by HUD, that are posted in the HA office.
D. Provide documentation of Social Security numbers for all family members.
E. Pay any money owed to PHA or any other housing authority
F. Not have had a lease terminated by PHA in the past 12 months
G. Be able and willing to comply with the HA lease: and
H. NOT have any family members engaged in any criminal activity that threatens the life, health, safety or right to peaceful enjoyment of the premises by other residents and not have any family members engaged in any drug-related activity.

3. Complete applications will be entered on the waiting list in the order received. The waiting list will then be processed in order according to unit type and size and admission preferences.

4. Each applicant who meets the above qualifications will be offered one unit of the size and type needed. If the applicant accepts the offer, the applicant will be offered a lease. If the applicant refuses the offer without good cause, the family will forfeit their application's date and time. The family will keep
their preferences, but the date and time of application will be changed to the date and time the unit
was rejected.

5. Applicants with disabilities may seek assistance with the completion of the application at PHA's Admissions and Occupancy Department, at the above address.

6. PHA will conduct a criminal history check and a credit history check on ALL adult applicants or those for whom adult records are available.

7. The following is a list of items that you MUST provide at the time of your interview:
- Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and Driver's License for ALL members of the
household;
- Marriage License, Divorce Decree or Paternity Action that states who has legal
custody of child(ren) and the amount of child support ordered (regardless of
whether you receive it or not).
- Proof that child support is not received as ordered and proof that you have tried
to collect it.
- Verification of ALL household income;
- Verification of assets.

PLEASE SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN INTERVIEW. We do not conduct walk-in interviews. At the time you turn your application in we also conduct an interview. Interviews are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please allow yourself at least 45 minutes for this process. Please do NOT bring small children with you. Anyone in the household 18 years or over MUST be present for the interview.
