In 1979, Charles "Chuck" L. Rice held a haunted hayride for family, friends, and neighbors in the woods behind his house. Early flyers would simply request that everyone bring cider or doughnuts to share around a bonfire after the hayride. Each year, more people asked Chuck about his hayride. Eventually friends of friends were asking to attend and the hayride became bigger and bigger. Eventually there was so much demand for the hayride that Chuck began charging admission in 1984 and started putting more energy and money into his spooky scenes in the woods. The hayride continued to operate through 1995.
