More about Heidelberg University

Heidelberg University, located in Tiffin, Ohio is a vibrant learning community of actively engaged students and faculty. Established in 1850 by the German Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ), the University embraces the spirit of free inquiry championed by its religious affiliation. Our approximately 1,300 traditional undergraduates from all over the country, as well as approximately 200 graduate degree candidates, go on to lead lives of purpose with distinction.

It's no wonder Heidelberg has been noted by several important college guidebooks, including U.S. News & World Report for the past 25 years. The University offers a strong liberal arts curriculum, solid career preparation, and many opportunities for getting involved in activities, campus organizations, and athletics. Heidelberg is well-known for its outstanding preparation of teachers who become leading educators throughout the Great Lakes region. Heidelberg offers a dynamic Honors Program for students in all majors seeking rigorous and challenging academic study. Heidelberg is also home to the Center for Historic and Military Archaeology, which offers remarkable research experiences for undergraduates, and the National Center for Water Quality Research which enhances opportunities within Heidelberg's environmental and biology academic programs.

Heidelberg is competitive in NCAA Division III athletics, and is a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, one of the three oldest athletic conferences in the nation. Heidelberg's mascot, the Student Prince, is named after a German operetta of the same name, reminding us of our historic roots in the German culture. Today, the University retains these connections through a unique study abroad program with its namesake city – Heidelberg, Germany, home of the world's first automated printing press.

Heidelberg University's attractive residential campus is home to 85 percent of our students. Set on 110 acres, nine buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We encourage you to visit our campus to learn more about everything Heidelberg has to offer.
