More about Independence Lake County Park

Independence Lake County Park offers swimming, boating and fishing, as well as picnicking, hiking, biking and rollerblading in a natural setting.

Blue Heron Bay, our new spray park, features 3 water slides, a toddler zone, family zone, and tween zone. The spray park is geared toward ages 12 and under.

The Beach Center houses the park office with year round restroom facilities and includes a concession and patio eating area. There is also a Meeting Room that looks out onto the lake and woodlands. The room contains a large screen making it an appropriate site for presentations, meetings and office retreats.

During summer months, Independence Lake offers a sandy beach and swimming as well as excellent picnic areas for family gatherings. The park rents paddleboats and rowboats and also offers a launch site for canoes, kayaks and motorized boats with ten or less horsepower.

There are four picnic pavilions of various sizes to accommodate small groups or several hundred people for birthday parties, family reunions, weddings and company picnics.

Other park activities include hiking nature trails through diverse habitat including wetlands, prairies and great stands of oaks. Pre-arranged nature programs or Guided interpretive tours are available with one of the Park Naturalists. Two miles of paved multiuse trails are provided for walkers, runners, bikers or rollerbladers.

This unique park is open year-round. Winter opportunities include ice fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
