Indiana University Northwest Spanish Studies

The Spanish program at Indiana University Northwest is housed in the Department of Modern Languages. Because Spanish is a small program, students get close attention from faculty, and this personal mentoring helps them grow and prosper in Spanish as well as in all of their academic studies at the university.

As a Spanish minor or major at IU Northwest, students learn to step outside their usual linguistic framework and familiarity in English and American culture by acquiring and obtaining a different view on the world and a new perspective on global affairs. Because the Spanish language is spoken by more than 500 million people around the world, it has enormous importance in many facets (cultural, historical, diplomatic, etc.). Due to this reality, Spanish students at all levels will learn to recognize and value diverse cultural differences and to understand the world differently. In studying Spanish at IU Northwest, students will be prepared for advanced studies and career opportunities in a limitless range of majors and disciplines.

Because IU Northwest is one of the eight campuses of Indiana University, students have access to a wide-range of study abroad possibilities throughout the Spanish-speaking world and many IU Northwest students have studied Spanish in Spain in recent years. These types of study abroad opportunities are covered by financial aid (if you qualify). Additionally, as a student at IU Northwest, you can receive various grants and compete for different scholarships to help you get to where you want to go. Dream big and study Spanish overseas!
