Institute For American Art

The Institute for American Art is a project space in Portland, Maine interested in promoting dialogue within the breadth of American Art. In the future, the Institute will engage with artists and cultural producers from all over the American continents. As of now, we have focused primarily on those within the confines of the United States.

The scale of each project is dependent on our collaborators. Some exhibitions have been small, with only an individual painting, while others have been large, incorporated multiple events over an extended duration of time. Each project, however, is pared down so as to eliminate curatorial commingling and highlight the practice of those involved. In short, we show one project at a time to focus the attention of the viewers and of ourselves.
