JJ's Own was established in 2012 by Joy Ortiz. Cilantro Lime Mayo is the first product of the line. Creator Joy Ortiz came up with recipe in her cafe called Lunch Box Cafe which has now become JJ's Own. Once just used as a spread for the signature sandwiches, customers could not get enough of this delicious dressing. So it was bottled and sold by the case. Joy could not make it fast enough and felt that the world needed to experience this 'mouth watering explosion', so it was pitched to the largest food market in the world... Whole Foods! And it was a hit.

Just 2 weeks before JJ's Own hit the shelves of Whole Foods, Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey. Lunch Box Cafe lost power for 8 days, losing all food and insurance would not cover anything. The worst part of it all was the damage to the home/office of JJ's Best owner Joy Ortiz. 7.5 feet of water. All supplies of JJ's Best was lost. EVERYTHING! Bottles, labels, lids, office. This was Joy Ortiz's 5th flood and lost all her belongings.



After losing it all, and insurance not covering anything during Sandy, Joy Ortiz was determined to not let this get her down. It actually made her stronger. Working 24/7 to save enough money to get her supplies back to get the product on the shelves of Whole Foods.

JJ's Best is the only local mayonnaise vendor in the tri-state area. It is Gluten-free, has no artificial flavors, no preservatives, and only 60 calories for 2 tablespoons!!! If any of these location are not near you, ask your local Whole Foods Markets for it. Support local!!
