ABOUT KALEO

Kaleo Covenant church is a unique idea formed from two communities coming together to impact the community we are a part of for Christ. In September of 2012, the congregation of Summit View Covenant Church and the community of newly planted Kaleo Covenant Church voted to partner together in ministry and merge into one church community.

Summit View Covenant Church was planted in 1998 with the vision of reaching out to the Beaverton community with the good news of Jesus Christ. During its formational years of ministry, the congregation met at Findley Elementary School and experienced wonderful community and growth. In 2005, it moved to our current location on the corner of 158th and Walker. Summit View's rich ministry history and desire to see lives changed and impacted for Jesus was foundational to the shared mission of Kaleo.

Kaleo, a church plant formed in 2011, brought its vision for sharing its call to impact lives through responsive worship, authentic relationships and service to others. Led by the vision of church planter Troy Hoppenrath, the community of Kaleo brought the message of Christ into the Hillsboro and Beaverton area by extending the idea of the traditional Sunday worship service outside the walls of the church building. This was brought to life through acts of service in the community it was a part of.

After a vote in January of 2013, the name Kaleo was adopted to represent the name of both communities coming together and growing as one. Our name comes from the Greek word καλέω or Kaleo which means, “to call or invite to something of significance.” We believe our community is “Called to be a missional, transformational church focused on Christ.” We believe God is calling all people to himself and we desire to partner with God and be participants in Gods unfolding story in the lives of His people.

Kaleo is a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Set in motion in 1885 by immigrants, the Evangelical Covenant Church today is a growing, multiethnic, intergenerational mosaic of churches with ministry partnerships in nearly forty countries. We join efforts in the hope of seeing even more people engage in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, across more populations, in a more caring and just world.
