Founded in 1983, La Clínica del Pueblo was a response to the physical and mental health care needs of Salvadoran and other Central American refugees escaping violence and war at home. What started as a small volunteer-based clinic has since expanded thanks to community supporters.
Today we provide services for over 4,000 patients a year. Through health fairs, charlas, and workshops we have reached thousands in the community yearly, providing the tools and education for thousands to take control of their health. Yearly, we also conduct over 17,000 interpretations for medical visits and consultations for DC-area residents.
We are currently operating at six locations: two fully-operating clinics in DC and Maryland, three community health centers, and a school-based mental health program in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
