La Leña is a restaurant by husband-and-wife team Adam Warren, the longtime chef at Navarre, and Angeline Perla, who introduced Adam to the cuisine of her native Peru.
During their trips to Lima, Adam came to love Pollo a la Brasa, Peruvian rotisserie chicken, which is a staple in the capital’s restaurant landscape. They saw how popular Pollo a la Brasa was for lunch and dinner, and marveled at the motorcycles buzzing through city streets delivering chicken day and night.
Adding to this culinary discovery were the neighborhood huariques, neighborhood restaurants serving Comida Criolla, the popular fare of Lima. Adam was hooked. They ordered a rotisserie from Peru and set about finding a space to recreate these authentic flavors in Portland.
