More about Lake Hoskins Improvement Association (LHIA) Ashley, ND

LHIA also works closely with the Ashley Park District, the entity responsible for the care and maintenance of the Lake Hoskins Park/Campground. The first project ever completed by LHIA was the Lake Hoskins spillway in the late 1980’s. In 1994, a metal spillway grate was installed to reduce the loss of fish in high water events. In 2003 LHIA coordinated an effort with KEM to remove all power poles from the south side of the lake. Additionally two sediment dams were installed on two inlets to Lake Hoskins. Over 1,500 feet of shoreline was rip-rapped with rock to prevent erosion into the lake. Over 500 trees were planted during this time with the help of the local Cub Scout chapter. A vaulted toilet was installed on the south side of the lake in 2004, and in 2005 LHIA was approved for a $230,000 watershed project, continuing until 2010. During this time 10 septic systems were installed on the lake, several thousand acres of farmland were converted to no-till; and pasture water line systems installed. A fish cleaning station was installed at the park in 2006, and improved to a fish grinding station in 2012. In 2011 a $25,000 matching grant was awarded to the Ashley Park District and LHIA to upgrade the campground facilities. This project, to be completed by 2013, will add 9 campground pads, improve the swimming area, upgrade the playground equipment, and improve the existing campground pads in the Park.
