Layden's Supermarket

When you step into the store, you take a step back into the past. Walk along the original wood floors, peruse the produce and aisles of your everyday grocery items, but then head on back to the meat department. Here's where you'll find a wall full of old-fashioned smoked meats(which we smoke in our old wood-burning smoke house out back), sample pieces of hoop cheese which we age ourselves, and watch us as we make our homeade sausage.

Before Charles Layden bought the building in 1959, Layden's Supermarket was known as the Nicholson Store. Founded in 1883, the building also housed the town's post office, and a blacksmith and barber shop were also located on the lot.

Charles Layden ran the store until he retired in 1986, in which his oldest son Douglas Layden bought the store and still owns and runs it today. Doug's oldest son Charlie plans to carry on the legacy of the family business.
