More about Learning Solutions, LLC

The office location is in Norwood Center at 49 Walpole St.. Groups are scheduled for 60 min., once a week. Our groups are on-going during the school year with rolling admission based on space and compatibility. During the summer we run a separate (but related) session of groups as well, between early July - mid-late August.

Currently we are organized for Mon.-Fri. groups between 4PM and 7PM.

Sat. for groups between 9:00PM and 4:30PM. If we have at least 3 compatible peers that can meet on a particular day/time, we will start a group.

Each group will have up to 6 students total (preferably smaller if possible); and if greater than 3/4 students will have at least 2 staff. 1-3 student groups will have 1 or possibly 2 staff depending on participants needs.

The ages of students are between 3-18 years old. Peers with similar ages are matched by a criteria of:

· Cognitive developmental level

· Verbal functioning ability

· Chronological age/grade in school

· Clinically compatible individual and group goals to work on complimentary behavior,

strengths, and challenges

· Groups will have combination of both boys and girls typically, but at

times can be all of one or the other. (Especially for hygiene tutorials or other gender

sensitive topics.)

· We look to needs, interests, and functional communication level when placing students

together.

· We do not group/place necessarily by diagnosis, but rather by compatibility. Depending on

the personalities and challenges of the members of a peer group, we have student profiles

that may be struggling with social challenges as a result of ADHD, AS, PDD-NOS, ASD,

Dyslexia, Genetic Disorders, low self-esteem/confidence issues, bullying, Epilepsy, Anxiety,

etc. All groups implement social coaching for a variety of skills.

Each student (with a parent/guardian) is required to come in for an intake meeting initially so we can talk, meet the student, answer questions about our groups, and discuss individual needs and goals. (The cost for this is the non-refundable application fee of $65.)

The curriculum is a combination of clinically tested and published work, as well as practice-driven curriculum we have created throughout the course of teaching groups privately, in public schools, and within community organizations.

Lessons/Concepts/and Skill Development guidance for each lesson will come from:

Think Social! by Michelle Garcia Winner (Social Thinking)

The Incredible-5 Point Scale by Kari Dunn-Buron and Mitzi Curtis (Strategies for behavioral regulation and coping)

SuperSkills by Judith Coucouvanis (Step by step task analysis of specific social skills)

SuperFlex by Stephanie Madrigal and Michelle Garcia Winner (Comic Strip Heroes designed to teach Social Thinking and Awareness)

As well as other tools that we have worked with, developed, or continue to learn about each day.

Activities will be interest-based depending on the participants in the group. Hands-on, visual, movement when possible given space, collaborative, games, building projects, community projects, problem-solving, etc.

The groups are facilitated by a licensed professional (Clinician), with possibly an experienced co-facilitator (Coach) as needed All lead facilitators are licensed special educators, educators, LMHC, SLP, or related professions. Co-facilitators are either licensed professionals as well, have completed related programs, or are pursuing related licensure and/or attending programs. Groups are supervised by a part-time BCBA/Behavior Specialist as well.

Pricing and more specific information you will find on the attached application form. We do not bill insurance directly however given the professional licensures of our Clinicians, some families find their specific private insurance will cover out-of-network reimbursement of social communication and skills group/group psychotherapy. Please inquire with your specific insurance carrier if you are provided this coverage; and if so inquire with us regarding necessary licensure information, etc. We do our best to work with families interested in payment plans or credit card/PayPal payment options as well.

Billing is done on a monthly basis. Each participant is invoiced one month ahead, so that if their schedule changes and they require a break from group they are only responsible to finish out the month of payment/participation (with at least 3-4 weeks’ notice to LS).

Hopefully this helps to answer any questions you have initially. Please do not hesitate to email or call if you would like to schedule an intake meeting and/or I can answer more specific questions for you.
