LJ Custom Furniture

In 1986, my wife and I were shopping and found a beautiful piece of furniture but, the price was just too high! I said, "Why don't I just build it and we could save a lot of money?" So, I did! (see Entertainment Center picture under Photos).

Since that time, I have built over 30 pieces of furniture for our own use and for clients with custom pieces in mind. I use pine, alder, mesquite and maple woods (love exotics) and prefer a natural look to the wood with stains that enhance the beauty of each piece. I also prefer to use a hand-rubbed wax or oil as a final finish to maintain a durable and renewable top-coat.

My wood Urns are made by hand (unlike most mortuary urns that are mass produced IN CHINA) and are one-of-a-kind. I have been selling these in one of the finest mortuaries in Scottsdale and the valley for over 7 years. I built the very first one upon the death of my father and have found that families like the natural beauty of the wood, the simplicity of design and the "character" portrayed by the sometimes flawed figures and grains of the wood. How fitting for the "characters" in our lives.
