Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gil Altman now owns The Smooth System, along with the aesthetic center. Opening his New Jersey private practice in 2006, he carefully selected non-surgical treatment offerings to complement his surgical procedures. Listening closely to his patients’ concerns, he was determined to provide only treatments that were certain to achieve their desired outcomes. It was this relentless patient-driven mandate that led Dr. Altman to The Smooth System of permanent hair removal, which has been performed for over 50 years on over 100,000 men and women with a flawless record of success.

Dr. Altman understood that the desire to remove unwanted hair, especially facial hair, was among the top of the list of his many patients. There was noted skepticism and concern about achieving results with laser treatments and an even greater concern about the limitations regarding skin tone and color of hair.

When Dr. Altman introduced The Smooth System into his practice in 2010, he too experienced a long list of satisfied patients. Experiencing this proven track record within his own practice using The Smooth System, Dr. Gil Altman and partners David Altman and Mike Eisenberg chose to acquire the company and expand the service menu to offer additional proven aesthetic treatments.

The Smooth System, formally named the Lucy Peters Integrated System was developed by Ms. Peters beginning in the late 1950’s following her own discouraging experience with conventional electrolysis. Lucy Peters was embarrassed by her appearance due to significant amounts of facial and body hair, and after failed outcomes with treatment, she invested a decade of her life to elevating the electrolysis process into an exact therapeutic science.

Ms. Peters trained in electrolysis, partnered with world–renowned dermatologist Dr. Albert Kligman for medical research, engineering, and clinical human trials. Her commitment led to achieving the only FDA approved treatment process for permanent hair removal.

The late Dr. Albert Kligman, dermatologist at the University of Pennsylvania, developed Retin-A acne treatment and Renova anti-wrinkle treatment. Dr. Kligman was the first to describe the human hair-growth cycle. Dr. Kligman introduced Lucy Peters permanent hair removal system at the American Academy of Dermatology convention as the only permanent hair removal system.
