*History of Maria's*
In 1967 at a family gathering, two brothers from Azusa, California made the decision to open a restaurant using their wives appetizing Mexican dishes. Since the brothers names were Jose and Joe Vasquez it seemed appropriate to call their new business venture Pepe's, the Spanish translation for both Jose and Joe. Located in Glendora, California, Pepe's Mexican Restaurant quickly became a popular spot among the locals. However, after 17 successful years, the brothers decided to pursue other dreams.

After a year of retirement, Jose and his wife, Maria, longed to return to the restaurant business. Missing their loyal customers, they decided to return to Glendora to open their new restaurant. Jose chose the name Maria's for the restaurant as a symbol of honor and respect for his beloved wife and mother of three daughters. Since its opening in 1982, Maria's has remained in the same location and continues to be family-owned and operated. Throughout the years, three generations have worked side by side providing Glendora and the surrounding communities with enticing Mexican cooking and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. On a given day, open the doors to Maria's and you are surrounded by tantalizing aromas drifting from the kitchen and sounds of laughter and lively conversation.

The familia warmth goes beyond the Maria's staff and extends to its loyal patrons. You can always find familiar faces seated at a table or booth enjoying their favorite dishes. It is often that when a customer has moved away and returns for a visit, their first stop is Maria's. They cannot wait to enjoy the chips and salsa and order a 3-T plate. As a show of gratitude, Maria's strongly believes in giving back to the community. Maria's is often listed as a donor to local school districts, churches and community organizations.

With the passing of Jose Vasquez in 2001, his three daughters and eldest grandson have stepped into his shoes to manage the restaurant. However, you will still find Maria in the kitchen making tamales and overseeing the quality of the food. It is her desire that Maria's Mexican Restaurant will continue through future generations of her family and will remain a community favorite.
