Western Oregon University established the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education (DHHE) program in 2015 to meet the needs of educating deaf children across the Pacific Northwest.

This 68-credit master's degree program has eighteen courses, which includes two student teaching sessions and a portfolio project spanning over two terms.

This program is part of the division of Deaf Studies and Professional Studies, one of the three divisions in WOU's College of Education.

Program Goals:
- Instill in pre-service teachers the desire to participate in lifelong intellectual work through theory and practice to generate educational knowledge that benefits children, families, and communities.
- Develop leaders in the field of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education, such as teachers, researchers, and specialists.
- Provide opportunities for advocacy and collaborative inquiry in order to prepare teachers for diverse and inclusive settings.
- Increase research opportunities in multiple areas affecting Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education, such as Deaf-Blindness, Academic Achievement, Transition Education, and the impact of Early Education.
