Medina County Auditor's Office

Medina County Auditor Michael E. Kovack first assumed office on January 15, 1993. He was re-elected to his sixth term in 2010. A Wadsworth High School alumnus, he graduated with honors from Bowling Green State University in 1983 with degrees in business administration, biology and secondary education. An active United States Naval Officer from 1984-1989, Kovack served three decorated tours of duty in the Persian Gulf aboard destroyers and minesweepers. A reserve officer from 1989-1993, Kovack was recalled to the Naval Reserve following 9/11. Since that time, Kovack has been mobilized four times, including two overseas tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Kovack served as a Wadsworth City Councilman from 1990-91 and received his Masters Degree in Public Administration magna cum laude from the University of Akron in 1992 and was named a Presidential Scholar by President George Bush. Kovack and his staff have received numerous local, state and national awards and have been recognized for "Excellence in Accounting" by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) each year he has been in office. In 1998, Kovack was the first Medina County Auditor to receive the "Outstanding Auditor Award" from the County Auditors Association of Ohio.

Kovack has served as president of the Northeast Ohio Auditors Association and this year was sworn in as president of the County Auditors Association of Ohio (CAAO).

Kovack has three children, Michael, Madison and Lauren and resides in the City of Medina. He is active in many community activities and established the Medina County Regional Pet Adoptathon which has hosted the adoption of hundreds of pets through the years.
