Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu "The Gentle Art"

​Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting.
Jiu-jitsu recognizes that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are suppressed when grappling on the ground. Brazilian jiu-jitsu emphasizes getting an opponent to the ground in order to use ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and choke holds. On the ground, physical strength is not as effective as a grappler who knows how to maximize force using mechanical advantage.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the early 1990s, when Brazilian jiu-jitsu experts won the first, second, and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC 1,2 & 4) which at the time were single elimination martial arts tournaments. They won against much larger opponents who were practicing other styles, including Boxing, Shoot-fighting, Muay Tai, Karate, wrestling and Tae Kwon Do. It has since become one of the most growing sport in the world.
